Mamnoon Hussain, Pakistan’s former president, died on Wednesday in Karachi, according to his son Arsalan Mamnoon. He was 80 years old at the time.
Hussain has cancer and had been receiving treatment at a private hospital for the last two weeks, according to his son.
Hussain was Pakistan’s 12th president, serving from 2013 to 2018 while the PML-N was in power. He was one of the PML-most N’s prominent leaders.
Mamnoon Hussain, a former businessman, was born on December 23, 1940, in the Indian city of Agra. In 1969, he began his political career as a Muslim Leaguer. He was appointed joint secretary of the League’s Karachi branch at the time.

Since 1993, while Nawaz Sharif was in opposition, he has been an active member of the PML-N. Hussain worked as an advisor to the provincial chief minister (Liaquat Ali Jatoi) for a minor portfolio before being appointed governor of Sindh by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1999 for less than six months.

When military control was imposed in October 1999, Hussain remained steadfastly with Nawaz Sharif as a large number of PML-N officials just abandoned their party.
