On Sunday night into Monday, scenes of fear and confusion were observed at the Kabul airport, as a sea of people raced to the Hamid Karzai International Airport in an attempt to catch flights out of the country following the Taliban takeover.
The Taliban proclaimed an universal amnesty after capturing Kabul on Sunday afternoon, urging residents not to flee the nation out of fear and despair.
However, many video recordings showing Afghans racing hurriedly towards the Kabul airport in the hopes of catching a flight out of the country went popular on social media.
Ahmer Khan, an award-winning journalist, posted a video clip showing “sheer hopelessness” at the Kabul airport.
Hundreds of Afghans can be seen running towards the airport while gunshots can be heard in the background, according to a video provided by Disclose.tv.
