The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has hailed Pakistan for “extraordinary support” in removing its personnel from Kabul, little over a week after the Taliban took control of the Afghan capital.
Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF, stated on Twitter that Pakistan’s assistance at the highest levels were “extremely crucial” to the evacuation of IMF personnel and their families from Afghanistan.
“My sincere gratitude to @ImranKhanPTI for Pakistan’s outstanding support under extremely tough circumstances!” she wrote on Twitter.
Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan’s capital on Sunday, Pakistan has started granting visas and securely removing diplomatic employees and international media, among others, from the country.
Pakistan has railed against the world community for failing to recognise its efforts to safely remove people from Afghanistan.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi stated that Pakistan is now engaged in evacuation missions in Kabul, which is the urgent problem for the international community.
The Pakistan Embassy in Kabul is working around the clock to transfer individuals out of the city, including diplomatic employees and staff from foreign organisations, he added.
“Are we being recognised? No. “We aren’t even on the list of countries that are assisting in the evacuation of people,” he had lamented.
