In the inaugural encounter of the Twenty20 World Cup on Sunday, Oman skipper Zeeshan Maqsood won the toss and opted to bowl against debutants Papua New Guinea.

Oman has home advantage in only their second T20 World Cup, and Maqsood feels the team’s spinners can make the difference at Al Amerat.

At the toss of the first round match, Maqsood stated, “The wicket seems dry, and we have spin spinners with us.”

“We’ve worked hard to prepare and are hoping to give it our all in order to advance to the next round.”

PNG captain Assad Vala felt optimistic in his team’s ability to do well in their maiden World Cup debut.

“I would have also bowled first. The preparation has been excellent, and we must use our creativity and give it our all “Vala said.

“We’d want to play in the PNG style, which you’ll hopefully see shortly. We have a strong all-around group.”

Oman and the United Arab Emirates are hosting the seventh edition of the competition, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India serving as hosts.

Starting on October 23, the top two teams from Group B will proceed to the Super 12 stage, where they will face the heavyweights.
