ISLAMABAD – Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), met on Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday to discuss the last preparations and arrangements for the OIC nations’ special meeting of foreign ministers.

The 17th Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, sponsored by Pakistan, is set to take place on Sunday, December 19.

The secretary-general extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for hosting the meeting so generously.

He also lauded Pakistan for its vital role as an OIC founder member, continually supporting the Organization and contributing to the enhancement of cooperative Islamic activity among OIC member nations.

Taha’s discussion with the foreign minister also covered a number of topics of mutual interest.

Foreign Minister Qureshi thanked the Secretary-General on his appointment to the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

He praised the OIC’s efforts to strengthen Islamic solidarity, assuring Pakistan’s Secretary-General of his support.

He also expressed gratitude to the OIC General Secretariat, led by the secretary-general, for the exceptional preparations and arrangements for the CFM on Afghanistan.

Pakistan, according to Qureshi, is looking forward to working closely with the OIC to ensure the success of the 17th Extraordinary Session of the CFM on Afghanistan.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Mahamat Adoum Koulbou, Director-General of the Secretary-Cabinet, General’s and Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, and Social Affairs.
