ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – On Tuesday, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, announced that the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to file a petition in the Supreme Court against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif.

During a press conference, the minister stated that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif had been granted permission to travel abroad on the assurance of Shehbaz Sharif. Nawaz Sharif’s illness was a hoax because he did not seek medical treatment in London, he added.

Fawad Chaudhry claimed that the Sharif family is mocking national law while abroad. He went on to say that the Pakistani embassy contacted the Sharif family twice for medical reports on the former prime minister, but they refused to submit them.

He demanded that Shehbaz Sharif return his brother as promised, or else he would be disqualified for submitting a false affidavit.

According to the minister, the cabinet was also briefed on the country’s Covid situation. He stated that no lockdown will be imposed in the country because the Pakistani economy cannot afford it.

He did, however, urge people to take precautionary measures, such as wearing face masks in public places, to prevent the virus from spreading. He stated that the government will continue to monitor the situation.

Concerning Electronic Voting Machines, he stated that the Ministry of Science and Technology has been directed to provide EVMs to the Election Commission of Pakistan in order for the next elections in Islamabad to be held using these machines to ensure transparency.

According to Fawad Chaudhry, the cabinet also approved the start of a housing project on 400 kanals for Pakistanis living abroad. He stated that apartments in this project can be purchased by overseas Pakistanis using Roshan Digital Accounts.

He claims that the government will earn around two billion dollars from this project. According to him, the cabinet also directed that a policy be developed to allow foreigners to purchase land in Pakistan.

The minister stated that the Federal Cabinet approved a one-rupee-per-unit increase in electricity tariffs for the next three months in order to provide relief to the people. In addition, the Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy, the Sambarial-Kharian Motorway, urea imports from China, and the privatisation of the Guddu and Nandipur power plants were all approved.
