The Islamabad High Court (IHC) barred the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from holding local body elections in Islamabad on Thursday.

The court declared during the hearing that the decision was taken in line with the terms of the Local Government Ordinance.

The federal government was also ordered to explain why it repealed the Local Government Act and implemented an ordinance, according to the court.

It should be mentioned that local government elections were scheduled to take place in the federal capital on April 15 utilising electronic voting machines (EVMs).

For the 2018 elections, ECP has sought 3900 electronic voting machines from the federal government.
