The media Joint Action Committee, which includes the APNS, CPNE, PFUJ, PBA, and AEMEND, issued a statement on Sunday emphatically rejecting the draconian amendment to the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA), calling it a clear attempt to stifle media independence, freedom of speech, and dissenting voices.

The statement went on to say that all media organisations will use all legal means at their disposal to resist any attempt to limit the media’s independence and right to speak out against any attempt to limit freedom of speech, as protected by the constitution.

If necessary, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) will use the entire force of its component bodies and individual members to resist any and all such efforts.

The administration is clearly determined to push through its ill-conceived and draconian agenda through different prudential regulations, according to the statement. To preserve freedom of expression and people’s access to knowledge, all media organisations have come together.
