During the 117th meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission (PIC), held in Islamabad on March 1-3, 2022, Pakistan and India reviewed a wide range of water-related problems between the two countries.
The meeting alternates between Pakistan and India each year, as stipulated by the relevant terms of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) 1960.
P. K. Saxena, India’s Commissioner for Indus Waters, led a ten-member Indian team, while Syed Muhammad Mehar Ali Shah, Pakistan’s Commissioner for Indus Waters, led the Pakistani group.
Pakistan’s concerns about the Kiru Hydroelectric Project (HEP), which is located upstream on the Chenab River, and India’s new run-of-the-river minor HEPs on Western rivers, were reinforced.
