The Indian authorities have confirmed that a missile was unintentionally fired, a day after DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar demanded an explanation from India over a flying item that crashed near Mian Channu on Wednesday.
“On March 9, 2022, a technical breakdown resulted in the unintentional firing of a missile during routine maintenance. In a statement issued today, the Indian Ministry of Defence said, “The Government of India has taken a serious stance and ordered a high-level Court of Enquiry” (Friday).
“It has been learned that the missile fell in Pakistan.” While the situation is very regretful, the fact that no one was killed as a result of the accident is a source of relief,” the ministry noted.
Major General Babar Iftikhar, a spokesman for the Pakistan Army, said in a press conference on Thursday that an Indian supersonic missile violated Pakistan’s air space, endangering civil flights before crashing 124 kilometres from the international border near Mian Chunnu, damaging civilian property but no lives were lost.
The PAF Air Defence Operation System detected a high-speed flying object inside Indian territory, according to the DG ISPR. The item was picked up at 18:43 a.m., and after remaining airborne for a short time, it abruptly changed course and intruded into Pakistani territory.
“A supersonic flying thing, very likely a missile, but it was obviously unarmed,” he said.
Initial reports on Wednesday indicated that a tiny plane had crashed nearby.
