On Wednesday, British musician Ed Sheeran won a copyright case in London’s High Court over whether a chorus in his 2017 big hit “Shape Of You” was stolen from another artist.

Sheeran was embroiled in a legal battle with grime musician Sami Chokri (aka Sami Switch) and music producer Ross O’Donoghue, who claimed the hook from “Shape of You” was plagiarised from their 2015 song “Oh Why.”

The judge, Antony Zacaroli, stated, “While there are similarities between the OW (Oh Why) Hook and the OI (Oh I) Phrase, there are also major variances.”

Ed Sheeran’s smash hit was the best-selling digital music in the world in 2017, with over 5.6 billion views on YouTube.
