Today (Thursday), the 84th death anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal is being commemorated across the country to honour his fight and contributions for a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Subcontinent.
On November 9, 1877, Allama Muhammad Iqbal was born in Sialkot. He is also known as Muffakir-e-Pakistan (Pakistan’s Thinker), Shair-e-Mashriq (Poet of the East), and Hakeemul Ummat (Doctor of the Muslim Ummah), and is credited with igniting pan-Islamic thinking among Muslims of the subcontinent.
Allama Iqbal envisioned a distinct country for the Muslims of the subcontinent, which resulted in the establishment of Pakistan in 1947.
