According to the governor, at least 33 people were killed on Saturday when militants opened fire on vegetable farmers in Burkina Faso as the authorities worked to quell an uprising.

Eight of Burkina Faso’s thirteen regions, including the western Boucle du Mouhoun, have proclaimed states of emergency since March.

According to a statement from Governor Babo Pierre Bassinga, the farmers were attacked on Thursday at around 5:00 p.m. (1700 GMT).
