NEW ZEALAND (Reuters) – At least six people have died as a result of a fire at a multi-story hostel on Tuesday in Wellington, New Zealand, and authorities have warned the number may increase.

Fire and Emergency Services New Zealand (FENZ) stated, “There are still a number of people unaccounted for, but this number, along with the number of deaths, cannot be confirmed at this time.”

Police have stated that they anticipate the death toll to be less than 10, and Prime Minister Chris Hipkins reported that six people were deceased on the morning television programme AM.
