Ukrainian drones attacked Moscow on Tuesday, according to Russia, in what one legislator described as the worst such attack since World War II, while Kyiv was also bombed by air for the third time in 24 hours.

Since Russia dispatched soldiers to its neighbour in February of last year, the battle has primarily been waged within Ukraine, but Moscow has recorded numerous attacks on its territory, one of which it claims was an assassination attempt on President Vladimir Putin.

The early-morning assault on Tuesday targeted some of Moscow’s richest suburbs, including a western zone where Putin and the privileged live. He afterwards visited the Kremlin and was briefed about the incident, according to a spokesperson.

Russia’s defence ministry reported that eight drones deployed by Kyiv were shot down or redirected, while Baza, a Telegram group with connections to security agencies, reported that more than 25 were engaged.

According to the mayor of Moscow, two individuals were hurt, and some residential buildings were momentarily evacuated. Residents reported hearing loud explosions followed by the smell of fuel. Some captured footage of a drone being shot down and a column of smoke.

Maxim Ivanov, a lawmaker, termed it the most severe attack on Moscow since the Nazis, and said no citizen could now evade “the new reality.” “You will either defeat the enemy as a single fist with our Motherland, or the indelible shame of cowardice, collaboration, and betrayal will engulf your family,” he declared.
