MOSCOW/KYIV: According to Moscow, Ukrainian artillery bombardment in Russian-occupied eastern Ukraine claimed the lives of five persons. Drone strikes were also reported on two Russian oil facilities on Wednesday.

In a week in which both nations accused one another of using airstrikes to sow terror in their capital cities as Ukraine gets ready for a Western-backed campaign to halt Russia’s invasion, there was no quick response from Ukraine to the Russian reports.

Since Moscow’s soldiers invaded Ukraine 15 months ago, thousands of people have died, but Tuesday was just the second occasion that Moscow came directly under fire, despite the fact that oil and military infrastructure in Russia have also been struck.
