KAMPALA: According to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, 54 Ugandan troops perished last week when terrorists besieged an African Union facility in Somalia. This was one of the bloodiest recent attacks by Al-Shabaab militants.
Late on Saturday, Museveni sent a message on his official Twitter account stating, “We discovered the lifeless bodies of 54 fallen soldiers, including a commander.”
The attack was claimed on May 26 by Al-Shabaab, a violent insurgency that has been raging for more than ten years against the tenuous central government of Somalia. Al-Shabaab seized control of the base.
