This week, Norway’s Climate and Environmental Research Institute NILU reported that smoke from Canadian wildfires had been seen thousands of miles away.

According to researcher Nikolaos Evangeliou, “very weak” quantities of smoke particles have been found since Monday, particularly at the Birkenes observatory in southern Norway.

The intensity, direction, and precipitation of the flames have all affected measurements differently.

“We don’t see any serious peaks or large increases… so we don’t see any serious environmental issues (in Norway) or health hazards either,” he continued.

In recent weeks, tens of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes due to larger and more intense wildfires that have destroyed almost 3.8 million hectares of Canadian woods.
