BOGOTA – Four Indigenous children who had been missing in Colombia’s Amazon jungle for more than a month were discovered alive and airlifted to the capital Bogota early Saturday.

The youngsters, who survived a tiny plane accident in the bush, were flown to a military airfield by an army medical jet at 00:30 a.m. Saturday (0530 GMT).

According to AFP journalists, they were brought off the plane on stretchers and covered in thermal blankets, with ambulances ready to transport them to the hospital.

General Pedro Sanchez, who headed the search and rescue operations, commended Indigenous people for discovering the youngsters.
