Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Belarus, announced on Saturday that he had reached an agreement with Yevgeny Prigozhin, the rebellious leader of the Russian mercenaries, who had agreed to defuse the situation.

According to the notification made on the Belarusian presidency’s official Telegram channel, Prigozhin has consented to stop the further movement of Wagner fighters across Russia.

Later on Saturday, Prigozhin claimed that in order to stop the killing, he had instructed his soldiers who were in a convoy heading towards Moscow to turn around and head back to their bases. Later, the Kremlin declared that a deal had been reached and that Prigozhin would leave Russia for Belarus with all allegations against him dismissed.
