According to a senior defence official, the United States is boosting its deployment of fighter jets in the vital Strait of Hormuz to defend ships from Iranian snatchings. The person also noted that the United States is getting increasingly concerned about the growing relations between Iran, Russia, and Syria throughout the Middle East.

The official told reporters at the Pentagon that this weekend, additional F-16 fighter jets will join the A-10 attack aircraft that have been patrolling the Gulf region for almost a week. Iran attempted to board two oil tankers last week near the strait, firing on one of them in the process.
