Gigi Hadid, a supermodel, was detained in the Cayman Islands for marijuana possession

Model Gigi Hadid was reportedly jailed last week in the Cayman Islands for allegedly carrying marijuana, according to officials.

According to Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control, Hadid, also known as Jelena Noura Hadid, and influencer Leah Nicole McCarthy were detained on July 10 for smuggling marijuana and drug paraphernalia into the country.

“Who arrived on a private aircraft to the Cayman Islands from the United States were arrested following a search of their luggage, and a small amount of marijuana was recovered,” the island nation’s border officials stated.

The 28-year-old was travelling with marijuana that had been legally acquired in New York City with a medical permit, according to a spokeswoman for Hadid.
