According to government sources, at least 16 people were killed and another six were hurt in a suspected electrocution on Wednesday morning in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

The incident occurred within a sewage treatment facility built in the Chamoli region of the Himalayan state as part of a federal initiative to protect the Ganga river.

According to officials, the dead include a police officer and three members of the Home Guard, who are thought to have perished while attempting to save the police officer.
