The second-seeded Andrey Rublev defeated Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the opening round of the Hamburg European Open on Wednesday by scores of 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (7), saving three match points in the final tiebreaker.

In the tiebreak, the Russian fell behind 6-4 before winning the next two points. Rublev made another save after Zapata Miralles regained the lead at 7-6 before scoring three times in a row to win the two hours and 53 minutes-long contest.

In a different first-round match, top-seeded Casper Ruud of Norway defeated Sebastian Baez of Argentina with scores of 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
