It would be “an honor” to follow Jordan Henderson as captain, according to Virgil van Dijk, who stated on Saturday that he was certain Liverpool’s players will step up to fill the vacuum left by Henderson.

This week, Dutch defender Van Dijk, who has previously worn the armband, is largely expected to replace England midfielder Henderson as captain.

Van Dijk said in Singapore, where Liverpool play Leicester City on Sunday, “Obviously he’s going to be a big miss for us as a player and definitely as a leader and a captain, someone who’s so important for us and successful at the club over the last years.”
