NEW ZEALAND (Reuters) – Before facing Panama on Wednesday, France is in a dominant position to advance to the Women’s World Cup knockout phase, while Brazil’s ambitions are hanging in the balance, with the South Americans requiring a win over Jamaica to clinch a place in the last 16.
After suffering to a goalless draw against Jamaica in their opener, Group F leaders France kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 triumph over Brazil over the weekend. They simply need a point in Sydney to advance to the World Cup knockout stages for the fourth time in a row.
“We know it’s going to be tough, it’s not a friendly,” France coach Herve Renard said of the match against Panama.
