FIFA announced Friday that attendance at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand had “exceeded expectations in many ways” compared to 2019.
According to data released by football’s regulatory body, 1,222,839 supporters had walked through the turnstiles after 48 matches. This represents a 29 percent increase over the 48 matches played in France four years ago. The average attendance at this World Cup, when the knockout stage begins on Saturday, is slightly more than 25,000 people.
