ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has filed charges against Deputy Director NADRA and Assistant Director NADRA in connection with the phoney ID card issue.
According to reports, the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) has begun operations in Karachi. NADRA deputy director Gauri Shankar and assistant director Yasir Zeb have been charged.
The accused, NADRA deputy director Gowri Shankar, has gone into hiding to escape arrest amid the continuing FIA investigation into fraudulent identification cards.
Taking advantage of the accused deputy director’s fear and intimidation, NADRA assistant director Yasir Zeb sought a payment of Rs 1 million and guaranteed him of protection from arrest.
Following the filing of the case, the already sought deputy director was apprehended, but the hunt for assistant director Yasir Zeb continues.
So far, six charges have been filed in the false identification card scam, and 18 people have been detained, including NADRA officials, foreign nationals, and agents.
