Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mahmood has convened the Legislative Assembly session on Monday to pick the new prime minister, after the session’s prorogation due to a Supreme Court judgment earlier on Saturday.
Following Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi’s resignation, the opposition protested to the session summoned by the speaker on a request to take up a no-confidence resolution as unconstitutional and obtained a restraining order from the High Court.
Sardar Tanveer Aliyas, the candidate for prime minister, then appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court’s decision, which was issued on Saturday.
