(Reuters) MOSCOW According to Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, Russia expresses its deepest worry over the significant escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“We call on the Palestinian and Israeli sides to implement an immediate ceasefire, renounce violence, exercise the necessary restraint and establish, with the assistance of the international community, a negotiation process aimed at establishing a comprehensive, lasting and long-awaited peace in the Middle East,” she said in a press release.
The Interfax news agency earlier reported that Russia is in communication with Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and Arab nations regarding the flare-up, citing Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.
