(AFP) – On Wednesday, Taliban Prime Minister Mohammad Hassan Akhund urged Muslim nations to be the first to recognise the government that seized power in Afghanistan in August.
No country has yet recognised the Taliban administration, and the world is waiting to see how the Taliban will govern this time.
Despite the group’s promises of gentler administration, women are mostly barred from government work, and secondary schools for females have largely stayed closed.
“I urge Muslim countries to take the initiative and publicly recognise us. Then I’m hoping we’ll be able to grow swiftly.”
Mohammad Hassan Akhund told a gathering in Kabul that the country’s severe economic issue must be addressed.
“We don’t want anyone’s assistance. It is not something we desire for the authorities “Akhund was alluding to diplomatic recognition when he said this.
“We want it for our people,” he said, adding that the Taliban had met all of the requirements by restoring peace and security.
