Legendary French actor Alain Delon has away at the age of 88.

The French film industry’s golden age included the actor, who gained fame for his rugged on-screen image in popular films such as Borsalino and The Samurai.

According to a statement sent to the AFP news agency, “He passed away peacefully in his home in Douchy, surrounded by his three children and his family.”

Delon has been a virtual hermit due to his bad health in recent years. His family’s disintegration has been in the news in France more recently.

Delon, who played in popular 1960s films such as The Leopard and Rocco and his Brothers, was sometimes referred to be the most attractive guy in cinema history.

Whether he was portraying a murderer or a charming con artist, he always won over the hearts of his audience. His movie roles became fewer starting in the 1990s, although he continued to be mentioned often in the tabloids. Throughout his career, he made appearances in over 90 movies. Among those praising Delon on Sunday was French President Emmanuel Macron, who stated that the actor “played legendary roles and made the world dream.”
