ISLAMABAD – Qazi Faez Isa, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), has given a strong warning to individuals who frequently request adjournments.
“Keep in mind, no more adjournments from now on,” he declared.
When one of the attorneys requested an adjournment of a property dispute hearing on Monday, the top justice issued the warning.
The chief judge, who presided over a three-member bench, chastised the lawyer and denied his request for an adjournment.
CJP Isa stated that the Supreme Court has a large backlog of cases awaiting judgement. He stated that from now on, a notification would be sent to the parties, and a decision would be published following the next hearing’s arguments.
The chief judge stated that it was common procedure in other courts to request time for document submission. “This is the Supreme Court, the apex court where all of the cases’ judgments are already recorded.” The documentation should have been completed when a lawsuit is submitted before the Supreme Court,” the CJP stated.
He cautioned that the arguments should be delivered all at once. “Improve your Urdu or English language [so that there’s no ambiguity while arguing your case],” Chief Justice Isa concluded.
