MASTUNG – A ‘powerful’ explosion in Balochistan’s Mastung district resulted in at least 30 fatalities and more than 50 injuries.
The DHQ Hospital has received the injured. The incident happened close to Madina Masjid on Al Falah Road. Police, the Bomb Disposal Squad, and ambulances from Rescue 1122 are there.
A state of emergency has been issued at all hospitals. Security forces surrounded the area shortly after the incident.
One among those slain was DSP Nawaz Gashkori. According to a spokesman for the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Balochistan, a suicide bomber detonated himself in the middle of a crowd.
At least 11 people were injured by a bomb earlier this month in the same neighborhood, including Hafiz Hamdullah, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-i Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).
Interim Sindh Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar condemned the blast, according to his spokesman.
In a statement, the senior ministers referred to those who killed innocent people as “enemies of humanity.”
Deputy Inspector General of Police Munir Ahmed stated to Reuters that the bomber “detonated himself near the vehicle of the Deputy Superintendent of Police” and that the blast took place close to a mosque where people were assembling for a procession honoring the Prophet Mohammad’s (SAW) birthday, which is a public holiday.
