LAHORE – The PTI chairman and Shah Mehmood Qureshi, a top party official and former foreign minister, were blamed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for the cipher debacle, and they presented a challan to the special court hearing the case under the Official Secrets Act.

According to sources, the nation’s top agency asked the court to convene a trial and punish the offenders through the challan it presented.

The sources did add that Azam Khan, a former senior secretary to the previous prime minister, had been appointed approver in the case whereas Asad Umar had not been nominated.

Additionally, the challan includes Azam Khan’s statement, which was recorded in accordance with Sections 161 and 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

According to the sources, the planners, executors and handlers of the May 9 episode would have to face law – a repetition of what the military leadership under Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir had made it clear soon after the violent acts.

Those who orchestrated the May 9 events won’t be forgiven, the sources said in response to what has been reported by some elements on mainstream and social media as well as their statements – directly or indirectly.

In reaction to what has been published by some elements on mainstream and social media as well as their words – directly or indirectly – the sources stated that those who engineered the May 9 events won’t be forgiven.

As the state pursues those responsible for the mayhem on May 9, the prosecution earlier this week filed challans in 11 distinct instances, including one involving the Jinnah House attack, before an anti-terrorism court in Lahore.

Among those named in these crimes, which also involve attacking Askari Tower and setting a police station on fire in Shadman, are the PTI chairman, former Punjab governor Umar Sarfraz Cheema, former health minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid, and Khadija Shah.
