ISLAMABAD: In the Avenfield and Al-Aziza cases, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday granted protective bail till October 24 to Nawaz Sharif, the supremo of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Prior to the three-time removed former prime minister’s scheduled October 21 arrival in Pakistan, an accountability court delayed the permanent non-bailable arrest warrants issued for his arrest in the Toshakhana gifts case. The trial judge barred the police from holding Nawaz at the airport and postponed the arrest warrant until October 24. Almost four years of self-imposed exile will come to an end with the PML-N supremo’s return to the nation.

On July 6, 2018, he was found guilty by an accountability court in the corruption references in Al-Azizia and Avenfield. He received a ten-year jail sentence. He received humanitarian bail from the IHC in October 2019 and traveled to London for medical attention.
