ISLAMABAD – Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar was called by the Islamabad High Court on November 29 in relation to the matter of the missing Baloch students.

The issue of the application of the Baloch Enforced Disappearance Commission’s recommendations was considered by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC, who also dismissed the report of the ministerial committee established to retrieve missing individuals.

The judge announced that the ministries of defense and interior will also be called in this matter and sent a notice to the prime minister. He said that although the court was now carrying it out, the executive still had responsibility for it.

Would it be prudent to forward this matter to the United Nations, the judge inquired? Should we bring shame to our nation?

The deputy attorney general asked the judge not to call the prime minister and cabinet. The court did note, though, that given how many people are going missing, the matter was being handled gently.

The judge emphasized, saying, “We are discussing the rights of Balochistan while we are here in Islamabad. I’m giving you a week to produce the 55 missing students and put the Baloch Students Commission’s recommendations into practice. If not, the judge said, the PM will appear in court.
