ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court acquitted PLMN leader Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield case.

The former PM was acquitted when the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) withdrew its appeal against Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference.

A two-judge bench comprised of IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb issued the ruling.

In July 2018, Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to ten years in jail in the Avenfield properties corruption case for having assets in excess of his known income, plus an extra year for non-cooperation with the NAB.

Both sentences were handed out consecutively.

Later that month, in December 2018, the ex-three-time prime minister was sentenced to seven years in jail in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case.

Following the withdrawal of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) plea contesting the acquittal in the case, the high court also closed the Flagship graft case against the PML leader.

Nawaz Sharif, speaking to the media outside the IHC, expressed appreciation to Allah Almighty for the overturning of the conviction.
