Justice Aalia Neelum, the first woman judge in history, has been named chief justice of the Lahore High Court.
In a meeting presided over by Pakistan’s Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) unanimously accepted her appointment. The council also examined the names of Justice Shujaat Ali Khan and Justice Baqar Najafi for the position.
She would succeed Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, who has been appointed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
