Adidas announced on Friday that Bella Hadid, an outspoken supporter of Palestine, had been removed from an ad campaign for vintage sneakers that referenced the 1972 Munich Olympics, which were marred by the murder of Israeli participants.

As part of a series resurrecting vintage iconic sneakers, the German sportswear giant recently resurrected the SL72, a shoe first shown off by competitors at the 1972 Olympics.

During the 1972 Munich Games, gunmen from the Palestinian Black September group burst into the Olympic village and grabbed hostages, killing eleven Israeli athletes and a German police officer.
