United Nations (Web Desk) – On Wednesday, UN Security Council members denounced the death of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Iran’s capital Tehran, while permanent representatives from the United States and the United Kingdom criticized Iran for destabilizing the area.
Iran requested an extraordinary session of the Council to discuss the execution of Haniyeh, and Russia, Algeria, and China all supported the move.
Speaking at the session, Chinese Ambassador Fu Cong expressed his strong condemnation of Haniyeh’s assassination.
Cong described the incident as “a blatant attempt to sabotage peace efforts,” and stated that “China is deeply concerned about an exacerbation of the upheaval in the region that this incident may cause.”
