PARIS (Reuters) — Serbia’s Novak Djokovic defeated Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti 6-4 6-2 on Friday to go to his first Olympic final, where he will face Carlos Alcaraz.
The 37-year-old was pushed hard in a high-quality encounter and was irritable at times on Court Philippe Chatrier, but hung tough in critical stages to advance.
Top seed Djokovic had lost three previous Olympic singles semi-finals, and a gold medal is the only major award left from a career that has seen him win 24 Grand Slam titles.
On Sunday, Djokovic will face Spain’s Alcaraz for gold, while Musetti, the 11th seed, will face Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada for bronze.
