(Reuters) – A 41-year-old man was mauled to death by a brown bear while strolling through a forest in the Far East of Russia, according to a Monday report from the official RIA news agency.
Since then, the animal has been killed, according to RIA, which cited the head of the Magadan area’s hunting department. The Magadan region is located approximately 6,000 kilometers (3,700 miles) east of Moscow.
“A human body with signs of an attack by a wild animal was found on a forest road,” the chief of the hunting department, Elena Slobodanyuk, was quoted by RIA as saying.
“During the examination of this individual, signs were found that it was a brown bear that attacked the person.”
