Karachi : (Web Desk )According to a project director at the firm, Karachi-based Dewan Farooque Motors Limited, a Pakistani car importer and manufacturer, would build Chinese electric trucks domestically. The vehicle’s introduction is planned for the first quarter of next year.
With the intention of having 30% of all passenger cars and heavy-duty trucks be electric by 2030, Pakistan enacted the National Electric Vehicles Policy (NEVP) in 2019.
By 2040, it has set an even more ambitious goal: 90% of all car sales must be electric.
Our new Chinese electric truck, the ‘Kama,’ makes use of the sturdy design of our Shehzore model, which runs on diesel. CBU (fully constructed) units have already reached Pakistan for the test trial and will be assembled locally. A launch is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, Kashif Riaz, Director of Projects at Dewan Farooque Motors, said Arab News.
Commercial trucks have always consumed a lot of gasoline. Operating expenses are significantly decreased by electrifying them. This light commercial vehicle can be charged quickly and has an e-range of 300 kilometers.
According to Riaz, the extensive use of electric vehicles in Pakistan might garner worldwide recognition and potentially lead to the issuance of carbon credits from the World Bank, offering a “golden opportunity” as Pakistan had the infrastructure, skilled labor, and capacity needed for domestic production.
The project director went on to say, “100% localized electric vehicle manufacturing is within reach due to abundant lithium resources and the potential for in-country battery production.”
Pakistan can establish itself as a major exporter of electric cars by doing away with the need for conventional engines and gearboxes and by bringing important parts like batteries under local manufacturing.
Production will surely increase if local EV manufacture is given more encouragement.
