ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) The US Department of State issued a travel advise for Pakistan, encouraging individuals to rethink visiting the country “due to terrorism and the potential for armed conflict.”
The Level 3 travel recommendation advises American citizens from visiting Pakistan, while the two dangerous provinces and regions along the de facto border dividing the Pakistani and Indian portions of Kashmir are designated as Level 4 threats.
“Violent extremist groups continue to plot attacks in Pakistan,” the statement stated.
“Do not travel to Balochistan Province and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Province, which include the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), due to terrorism,” it continued. Additionally, it advised travelers to avoid “the immediate vicinity of the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control due to terrorism and the potential for armed conflict.”
The caution warned that extremist organizations might strike with little or no warning, targeting transportation hubs, marketplaces, retail malls, military installations, airports, universities, tourist sites, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and government buildings.
It further stated that prohibited armed organizations have previously targeted US diplomats and diplomatic installations.
“Pakistan’s security environment remains fluid, sometimes changing with little or no notice,” according to the warning.
It cautioned that the US government has limited capacity to deliver services to US nationals in KP, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and most locations outside of major towns.
“Due to the risks, US government personnel working in Pakistan must obtain special authorization to travel to most areas outside of Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi,” according to the statement.
