(Reuters) – According to The Information, OpenAI and Meta Platforms have had separate meetings with Reliance Industries about prospective partnerships to extend their artificial intelligence products in India.
According to The Information, a partnership between Reliance Jio and OpenAI to distribute ChatGPT was being negotiated. Two persons acquainted with the situation confirmed this.
According to the source, OpenAI reportedly discussed with staff the possibility of lowering the ChatGPT membership fee to as little as a few dollars per month rather than $20 per month. It is unclear whether OpenAI has addressed the price reduction with Reliance.
According to The Information, Reliance has discussed selling OpenAI’s models to its enterprise customers via an application programming interface (API), as well as hosting and running OpenAI models locally to keep local customers’ data within India.
In particular, Reliance has considered running the Meta and OpenAI models in a three-gigawatt data center that the firm intends to build in Jamnagar, Gujarat, which it claims will be the world’s largest data center.
Meta declined to comment on the Information story. OpenAI and Reliance did not immediately reply to calls for comment on the allegations.
Reliance Industries is one of India’s major corporations, with operations in petrochemicals, refining, oil and gas exploration, telecommunications, retail, and renewable energy.
