ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reinstated ruling coalition members elected on reserved seats on Wednesday, after the Supreme Court’s recent decision on limited seats.
The Supreme Court’s constitutional bench upheld the review petitions, stating that the PTI is ineligible for women’s and minority reserved seats in national and provincial assemblies, giving the ruling coalition a majority of these seats.
In light of the Supreme Court’s decision, the ECP declared the previous de-notification of candidates who won general and reserved seats on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) platform null and void.
A total of 74 seats have been restored: 19 in the National Assembly, 25 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 27 in Punjab, and 3 in the Sindh Assembly.
According to the ECP spokesman, the commission has also retracted its notifications dated July 24 and July 29, 2024, which rendered the de-seating of PTI candidates effective.
On June 27, 2025, the Supreme Court decided on a series of review petitions, cancelling the aforementioned notices. In compliance, the ECP has now completely executed the court’s ruling and restored the membership of the impacted parliamentarians, allowing them to resume assembly activities.
