ISLAMABAD During his recent visit to Brussels, Field Marshal Asim Munir made no political statements and made no mention of an apology, according to Lt Gen. Ahmed Sharif, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The army commander spoke at high-level gatherings and events in Brussels, where he discussed matters pertaining to Pakistan’s defense strategy, foreign policy, and security concerns.
In a casual conversation with reporters, Lt Gen. Ahmed Sharif explained that the Field Marshal made no political remarks and did not interview a journalist in Brussels.
Additionally, he emphasized that reconciliation with the PTI was not mentioned. He said the army is a respectable organization and expressed remorse that even a senior journalist had behaved carelessly.
He clarified that the ceremony in Brussels drew hundreds of attendees, many of whom posed for photos with the Field Marshal. However, he described the journalist’s distortion of facts for attention and personal gain as an unacceptable behavior. Anybody engaged in illegal activity will have to face the law, he continued.
The perpetrators and organizers of the May 9 violence would be held responsible, Lt Gen. Ahmed Sharif said. He described the May 9 incident as a conspiracy against the state of Pakistan and underlined that it affected the entire country, not only the Army.
He came to the conclusion that although the legal process cannot be stopped by forgiveness, those who caused the turmoil should ask for it.
