ISLAMABAD: According to Channel News, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Interior and Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar has pardoned Punjab MPA Nazir Chohan.

Chohan, according to the PM’s assistant, waged a “false campaign” against him, putting “his life, as well as those of his family, in jeopardy.”

“As an ordinary person, I filed a complaint with the police and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA),” Akbar added.

“Chohan was detained as a result of claims against him proving accurate during investigations, and I hope to receive justice,” he said.

It was also claimed on Tuesday that Akbar had stamped a written reconciliation. According to the paper, there would be no objections to Nazir Chohan’s bail.

Chohan had recognised his error and apologised, according to Akbar.

According to a first information report (FIR) filed on May 29, given Akbar’s efforts to “ensure accountability,” Chohan levelled such charges that called into doubt Akbar’s religious convictions.

“The aforementioned act has been committed to cause harm to the applicant’s reputation, body, property, and mind, as well as to generate hostility in the public at large toward the applicant, putting the applicant’s life in jeopardy,” according to the FIR.

Akbar filed the complaint in response to a televised comment purportedly made by Chohan, a clip of which had gone viral on social media.

At the Race Course Police Station, Akbar had also filed another charge against Chohan. During an interview on a TV station, Akbar accused Chohan of fabricating accusations against the former’s religious views.

The FIR was filed under the Pakistan Penal Code’s sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 189 (threat of damage to a public official), 298 (making remarks with the intentional purpose to wound religious sentiments), and 153 (provoking a riot).
