The election of the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is scheduled for September 13, but prospective candidate Ramiz Raja has reportedly already started consultations to finalise his roadmap on how Pakistan cricket can go forward.
Raja, along with Asad Ali Khan, was nominated by Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is also the PCB patron, on the Board of Governors for a three-year term.
Raja will be formally appointed as the chairman of the cricket governing body after elections that are scheduled to be held on September 13. He has already accepted the offer to become the 36th PCB chairman.
According to sources, Ramiz Raja has been in communication with key PCB officials and has begun providing his opinion on measures to enhance Pakistan cricket, as outlined in his suggested roadmap.
According to PCB sources, whatever choices are taken in the next days will be in conformity with Ramiz Raja’s strategy.
Raja would have several hurdles if he is selected. One of the first will be the national team’s selection for the forthcoming World Cup, as well as a change in team administration, which he does not approve of.
Other obstacles in Raja’s path include implementing the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) financial model, championship sponsorship, and a three-year broadcasters’ deal.
He’ll also have to deal with issues relating to the National High Performance Center, domestic cricket, school cricket, and club cricket.
Raja’s own crew will have to make adjustments to the upper level of the PCB.
According to sources, the contract of PCB CEO Wasim Khan would not be renewed or extended. His contract is set to end in the first quarter of the next year.
